Quote of the Day
Epictetus
Quote
“What lies in our power is to act with integrity; what lies beyond our control is the response of others.”
About the Author
Epictetus, born enslaved in Hierapolis, became a prominent Stoic philosopher after gaining his freedom. He founded a school in Nicopolis where he taught the importance of distinguishing between what we can control and what we cannot. His teachings emphasize personal responsibility and resilience in the face of adversity.
Meaning for Today
In today's media landscape, where pressures often compromise integrity, Epictetus reminds us that our duty is to uphold truthfulness in our actions. Journalists, like all individuals, must focus on their own ethical commitments rather than the unpredictable reactions of others. This approach fosters trust and strengthens democracy, even amid challenges.
